You probably are very familiar with the verse “down on main street” in Bob Segers popular song. For me the music in that song creates a very soothing, easy going, comfortable feeling even though the lyrics might not quite support that. But for me that soothing music track really does capture the feel of being in downtown Fort Worth for the annual Main Street Arts Festival.
It’s hard to believe that such a huge event with top name musical talent would be free, but it is. Of course this event is really about the artists displaying their work, but it’s the music that probably brings us all together for a couple awesome summer like evenings in April.
Headliners this year were Leon Russell, Jonny Lang and Los Lonely Boys. If you wanted a good seat, get there early. If you didn’t that was fine also. There was plenty of standing room for the rest of us although you aren’t going to be getting anywhere fast through the sea of people that gathered for each performance.
I decided early on that I was going to bring in my good camera and lenses even though doing so would be an inconvenience. My backpack isn’t all that large, but it’s bigger than your average computer backpack and filled with the essentials weighs in at 14 pounds. Lugging that around for a few hours does take some effort not to mention it makes navigating through dense crowds a bit challenging. But still it was worth it as I was able to get some decent images of live music and downtown Fort Worth during a great event.
The Fort Worth Main Street Arts Festival is definitely on my “must do again” list.
