30 Seconds At A Time

A view of the mysterious orange glow from the Correctional Facility south of Baraga.

This series of images is just for those who lay awake at night wondering what happens if you leave the shutter on your camera open for 30 seconds while along the road at the south side of Keweenaw Bay. I happened to be driving home last night so I decided to give it a try.

And here is what happens when the cars are coming at you.

What’s up with the orange glow? It appears to be the maximum correctional facility in Baraga. I see it every time it’s a bit foggy out or low clouds are over it. With that much light I doubt anyone gets any sleep over there.

And here is what it sees when looking towards Lanse.

The smoke rising from the CertainTeed plant is always interesting at night.

A little tighter view of the plant.

Keep in mind that with the naked eye I didn’t see this much. 30 seconds of exposure helps to bring out stuff we don’t normally see. It’s always a surprise when the image comes up after waiting for 30 seconds to tick off. Kind of like making something out of nothing. :)
