They’re Back!

To my surprise the Pine Siskins have returned in mid winter. I spotted one on the feeder the other day, but it didn’t like the old thistle seed that was in the feeder since last fall so he flew away. I changed it out with new stuff this past weekend and what do you know. They have returned to feed.

What was interesting is that once the new food was there all it took was one to find it. After sampling it he started singing, which in turn brought in the whole crew.

It’s nice to have them back especially when I didn’t expect to see them until late winter or early spring, but apparently the arrival and disappearance of Pine Siskins during the winter has always been a bit of a mystery.

For now, at my feeder, the mystery is no longer. They are back.
