Party at My House
Posted by Mark Riutta in Nature on April 30th, 2009
Lunchtime today was even more busy than yesterday. Being it the last day of April I shouldn’t be surprised that the backyard wildlife would throw a party. Here are some of images I got in 20 minutes time in my backyard. The light wasn’t great, but the activity was.
Birds of a Feather

Since it was so nice outside today I decided to grab some fast food and sit in my truck and do some bird watching over lunch. The usual suspects were out and about in my backyard, grackles, starlings, finches, brown headed cowbirds. Even a crow flew past and landed in a nearby tree. He was promptly escorted by a handful of grackles away from what I suspect was a nest.
Capturing the Intensity of Music

Being a musician myself I can completely relate to what it is like to play on stage. I may have retired myself from actually performing, but I’ll never forget the feeling. So it’s no small wonder that I get such a rush out of photographing live band performances.
Nice Weather = Mr Chippy

Spring has sprung or at least from a chipmunks perspective it has. Lots of activity in the backyard lately. Of course the chipmunks are the most amusing. Here are some recent images of the little guys in action.
Opening Day… In a Different Sort of Way
Posted by Mark Riutta in Nature on November 15th, 2008
If you’re from Mars or some other distant planet then you probably were not aware that today was opening day for Michigan firearm deer season. So it seemed sort of fitting, by accident of course, that the day I chose to get up before sunrise and take pictures also happened to be the same day that thousands of hunters anxiously awaited for their buck to come in.
The Light At Night Can Be Alright

It’s not often that I go out and shoot at night, but the arrival of a new lens and lack of evening light prompted me to try something a little different.
Fearless Encounter

It was my first opportunity to capture images of a timber wolf in the wild. At first I thought it may have been a dog from one of the nearby homes, but his fearless glance and effortless trot as he made his way along the roadside told me different. This was no family pet.
Entertainment In The U.P…. It’s About Community

So why is it that we always feel the need to justify the price we paid for an item or service? Maybe it’s because we have felt so challenged by the high cost of just existing lately. I think we all want to enjoy our summer time, but with the cost of everything else rising you begin to wonder “just when do we get a break?”. With that bit of reality it’s good to realize that we all know the value of getting out and being a part of the community.
Craig Morgan Concert… I Would Like To Thank…

…The Michigan State Police, The Norway Current, My girlfriend Lori, and I guess somewhere along the way my intuition. It all started on Wednesday evening while Lori, her son Lucas and I were watching the performance of Tracy Lawrence at the U.P. State Fair in Escanaba. It couldn’t get much better than this. Watching a polished performance from a well known and still very current country artist on a calm late summer evening with people you love. In fact it was so perfect that I decided I could probably find a way to make it even better. How about do it again tomorrow night for the Craig Morgan show, but this time I would take pictures!?! And so the adventure begins.
They’ve All Flown The Coop

Yes. You heard me correctly, but we’re not talking about chickens here we’re talking about eagles.
So remember back when I got some interesting shot of eagles flying about and perched near a nest. Well, if you can’t remember here are some pics to get you up to speed. These were taken on May 14th.
