Calm at the Breakers

After my stormy night visit to the north entry point of the portage canal  I realized that I needed to go back out there on a nicer evening and hopefully get some sunset images. Now that my permanent home is Hancock I needed to find a new “go to” location where I can get those end of day shots that I used to capture from Millie Hill in Iron Mountain.

It was a relatively decent day so the evening looked promising for a photo opportunity. Unfortunately, it is difficult to predict what it will actually be like out there until you get there. A front was moving in and it was completely hiding the sun and the light was fading fast. Time to change my focus from getting a sunset to doing something else.

The good thing about the clouds is that they act as a big diffuser by softening the intensity of the light. The water was relatively calm so there wasn’t much “action” to capture in regards to waves crashing on the rocks. So my plan was instead to get some images of the light and break wall.

And as the light faded I noticed that the moon was creating some interesting reflections off the water.

You never know what nature will put on display. Every time I go out I get something I never saw before.
